Here I’m staring to reassemble the wings and those fittings are for the front headlamps.

The front headlight guides are metal brackets that line the centre of the headlamp aperture (the gold anodised part).
The tabs on the guide slide into grooves in the lamp fitting and locate the headlamps in correct alignment.

If you’ve got a 993 you’ve probably got (or had) rusty guides.
One of mine was very rusty and crumbly. The other had practically rotted away.
There was just a couple of studs left. It’s odd because the wings were unmarked, no corrosion at all.
Anyway, those rails are cheap enough and easy to renew.

The painted metal pressing is a supporting frame for the passenger inner wing.

Another improvement you’re going to want to make to your 993 is fresh headlights.
If you’re going to refresh the cosmetics then all new lights & glass will be essential.

The headlights get chipped and marked and they let things down.
Fortunately you can buy new lenses - i.e. just the headlight glass in a plastic frame - and you can lever off the old glass (half a dozen clips around the back edge), remove and then clip the new parts onto your existing lamps.

I reinstated the air vent grille and it looked too blue.
You could see the bright body colour through the mesh so it’s now black and visually appears much better. It's no longer prominent.

So, I'm gradually emptying my boxes of parts as I refit them to the shell.
I had bags and bags of components I took off the car. Despite being carefully labelled I went back and forth through all those bags looking for bits, countless times.
When you take a car apart you discover it's a lot of parts...

Great work Paul - must be great to build a car from the ground up! While at the headlights, there are some nice, simple bulb upgrades I did on mine which were a vast improvement on standard.

I really hope you don't have a bag of bits left on completion!

Really enjoying this thread, i think the colour looks wonderful, so many cars in the last 20 years or so were silver, black or dark grey metallic. I am never bothered about originality when it comes to colour, so long as vehicles are preserved and get used. (no offence meant to any proud owners of cars with aformentioned colours, i just like to see some variety )

Not sure the colour is my cup-of-tea, but totally agree with above, and if you like it , great.

I think the wheels/ stance will set the tone for the exterior and the way black will do the same for the inside with some 'custom' touches?

I went to look at a 993 yesterday as a result and the pedal offset is the same as the 964. I couldn't get on with that offset so bang goes the 993 option
Off to the 996 thread for me though they are all such bloody boring colours/interiors

Buy a LHD no pedal offset. I drove my LHD 993 as a daily driver for 5 years in the UK, wasnt a problem!
