ok, here's the before......

Mike, I had an email from Porsche Classic today advertising new 964 sport steering wheels. They look the same as yours but have the split seam on the vertical spoke. Does this mean they are not 964 correct?

Hi Philip, the Atiwe 32/70111 is the Italian made base for the Porsche 964 wheel you mention, generally called the 'Clubsport'.

Atiwe made them for Porsche with the central stitching to the bottom spoke and you can still get them from your OPC, they were an option on the 968 as well. At the same time they were doing after market versions, quite a few had a skivied joint to where the spokes meets the rim, and it was those joints and the central spoke stitching I didn't like, so decided to do my own.

I'd been shown at Neil's a rare Atiwe race wheel with plain spokes and the joints at the 5 and 7 o'clock positions, that's what I went for.

So here's mine finished, diameter is 360mm Philip.

No, didn't try Jonathan. After Dave Nunn who did my interior said his waiting list was over a year I went with another Porsche specialist trimmer, but that was a terrible mistake.
Luckily I had another guy, so gave it to a professional who took 6 hours and charged me £150, it's easy when you know how.

Here it is on his workbench, the white areas are where he repaired the rim in places he didn't like. Apart from the beautiful hand stitching he did a great job setting the 356 hood badge flush into the horn pad, he did offer to put an embossed horn motif into the bottom of the pad but decided against that.

All I need to do now is to fit the wheel into the car!

Brilliant work, lovely to see the image of the wheel stripped. The end result looks stunning.

Quite different, hadn't realised. Lovely wheel to use.

Has anyone seen one of the new Heritage steering wheels from Momo in the flesh? Without that horn push it wouldn't look too bad.

I think they'll look exactly what they are - a modern-looking wheel attempting to cash in on the 'old' steering wheel market.

Much like a new Prototipo vs a nicely-worn original ...

Agree with Andy but do quite like the design.
