We ran the Targa first of all with a standard engine lid, because it was "right". However we found it became scarily light at the rear in places like the finish line at Gurston Down, and so we fitted the one from the silver car - problem solved!

Ollie, they were horrible wheels in my eyes, but they had the two great advantages that -

They were 7 x 15, as wide as we could squeeze under the arches, and

We had them!

That spin could well have been the one which cost me the AWSMC Sprint Championship in 1984. I spun on the first timed run at St Eval, but recorded a much better time on the second run, which was enough to take the Championship.
Unfortunately, a single-seater 3 cars from the end of the meeting took out the timing lights, which couldn't be repaired before the curfew, so all of the second run times were deleted, and I had to be content with the runner-up spot.

I won the ASWMC Hillclimb Championship that year as well, so it would have been cool to do the double, but it wasn't to be......

Buying the car I assumed I would be deleting the whale tail, but it's grown on me. Especially the fact it's the rare shape only fitted early on (and reprised for the 1980 Weissach).

Unfortunately not!

The Porsche world is was a very different place in the late 70's/early 80's.
The 911S looks lovely, but at 10 years old it had already had quite extensive welding because of rust damage, and had been fitted with very good quality fibreglass front wings. It did go extremely well, and was a delight to rag across the Wiltshire plains early in the morning. The joy of red-lining the little 2 litre is still engrained in my memory!
Unfortunately in 1981 I had an argument with a very stout Devon hedge in Wiscombe Park, and shortened one side by several inches.
The expert opinion at the time was that it would take about £1500 to repair the accident damage, and at least another £1500 to repair the corrosion damage.
The car was only worth about £3000 repaired at the time, so we broke it for parts, used the engine for most of a season's double-driven Hillclimbs and Sprints in the back of the white Targa, and then sold it to go towards a 2.7 RS spec engine for the 1984 season, which was fantastic.
In 1973 and 74 I had watched Cahal Curley, Jack Tordoff, Ronnie and Dessie McCartney etc hammering their Carreras through the forests, and dreamed.......... Less than 10 years later I was competing in a Porsche 911 with the same power - how fantastic was that!

Oh - the correct registration on the V5 was UWD 774G. We had it on a show stand at one point, and someone pointed out that the registration didn't exist, so I had to check it out when I got home.

Have you checked the registration UWD 774G on the HPI check website? The reg still exists and it's on a silver 911..
Maybe somebody else revived the car?

Obviously out of date - DVLA states that the car hasn't been taxed since 1981 ...
