Indeed, the original Yellowbird sported them colour-coded.

A picture of the back deck of a 917 would be good too, car 22 at the 71 Le Mans for instance

One item that differed on RHD/LHD cars that I need to source was the drivers door mirror, no doubt because the left side large flag mirror wasn't available for the right side.

With such a limited production the right mirror obviously came from a different manufacturer....any ideas who that might be?....

Don't know if you get 000 magazine? Latest issue (013) features John Brewer's fantastic 1975 Turbo......a RHD car supplied new to Australia.....that looks to have the same mirror on it.

Looking at the shape of the mirror, especially on the white version, it looks very VW in shape. With the Swan neck design, is it possible its actually inverted the other way round on a van or something, to hang down from the windscreen pillar?

Thanks Tim, sadly real RS's and 000 Magazine are out of my price league but I'll try to take a look. Early literature shows 1974 RHD 2.7 Carrera's still with the round Durrant mirror but they obviously wanted something different for the RHD RS/Turbo.

Thank you, I've actually been looking at VW and Audi 70's mirrors and they are very similar......your post also has me wondering whether the mirror with it's central connection to the arm was designed to be mounted horizontally rather than vertically? Looks like it might be a possibility?

Looks the same type to me.

His description was
'1974 - 1977 Rounded Edge Australian 911 Side Mirror. Holy grail of G-series goodness. Extremely rare. In very good condition. Correct for your Australian 74 Carrera or any other Australian, Japanese or Hong Kong delivered 911 of that era.'

Maybe fitted to standard 911s in these countries?

....thanks for the link, that looks like the small type flag mirror that I have fitted to my orange car that Porsche now produce for both left and right. Only the left side was available in period but that's not an issue for the old dog.

Have to say I'm missing my updates from the Metal Meister and frustrating to have the car so tantalisingly close to the shell being finished but still not done, the anticipation is killing me!.....however with the uncertainty of the current situation and no idea when I could collect the shell anyway, I agreed with Barry that he'd move on to a couple of other projects and put mine on the back burner.....soon though!

So currently, along with trying to source the odd part, I spend my project time looking at photos and studying detail.......one thing that wasn't obvious to me previously is the factory preparation of the smugglers box.....

....obvious I know but if ever proof was needed that Porsche expected these road-going 3.0RS variants to be used in competition and suitably modified.....look no further....
