Finishing off the RH torque tube area:
What are those sticky-out things Barry? Is there an inner flange that this piece joins onto?

They are weld-on attachments for a slide hammer so he can lift any low spots in the panel for a very high quality finish.

Exactly.
Barry guarantees a maximum depth of filler that will be required, anywhere on the shell, when it's time for paint. These lifting rods are one example of how the required tolerances are achieved.
It's not so obviously important in this area (although nice to keep up the quality).

I believe little or no remedial work was required to these, to reach a standard Barry was happy with. So I think they are good. Unlike several of the other Porsche panels...
Cheers, Richard.
Thank you very much (and Barry)! Will use these instead of 964 ones then.
If somebody who have ordered these sills (or have access to PET) could validate if part numbers for these sills are (I couldn't find anything for 911 503 401 01 GRV):
911 503 402 06 GRV and 911 503 401 06 GRV ?
MANY thanks!!
(I urgently need these and my local OPC is "not that great"... :D )
Sorry for off topic and let this great thread continue!

Hi Ville,
Just checked my quote from OPC Glasgow. Here's the relevant section:
No warranty on this information, sorry: buy from your OPC at your own risk!
Sorry for my earlier error with the new part numbers.
Cheers, Richard.

I'm sure he could turn the grinder on you if need be, while Jamie blows cold air over the affected area.
Beloved wife and FD, who is a doctor, tells me that orthopaedic surgery (which she only did during training) was very similar to butchery.

MANY thanks Richard! (useless OPC here, I'm missing OPC West London a lot...

Thank you for the explanation, always interesting to read.
When I did my body it was the grinding that got to me, the din, the contortions needed and the danger if it dug in hard.
Linishing was much the same.
I was in a single car garage and being so cramped just made me keep a tidy area!
Just love these threads!
Thanks to all for doing this, I know it takes up a lot of time.

Do you know, this crops up all the time, and sometimes I do get tempted. I love teaching, and would really enjoy passing the skills (such as they are) on. The problem is, almost none is low / no skilled work, and when that does crop up it's a welcome relief. Frankly, you could have someone there for many months before they could do very much, and at least a year before they really started working. It's such a commitment for a little one man band like mine. Now, if I should boost up the vintage (Vintage?) side, that could possibly change, as actually I would be able to use a newcomer a bit more. For now though, we'll keep it simple!
As for the single garage, I totally get that. As you know I worked from home in a 1 1/2 car workshop (only one door fully open at a time), and that was bad enough. An actual single garage must be so very difficult, and all credit to people that restore cars in them. Lovely thing with bikes of course, nice size

.

I hope to learn or notice good things every day.
Many times Barry lets in patches and there is never a sharp corner, the patches are always curved.
Iwouldlike to think this makes the finished welding a far better blend as a sharp corner welded cane easily burn away leaving a blow hoe to fill which is always a clumsy result, or at least is when I have a mig welder in hand.
I'll put this to the test soon..
A local college and a chat to the local job centre might ease the first year an apprentice would present?
