Rather lovely these. They are from JB Racing in the US.
They are aluminium fin/iron sleeved cylinders. Those are matched with JE piston sets.
The cylinders are CNC machined from billet and feature additional fins and fin surface area (to assist cooling). These are a 93mm bore.

Got to be Magnesium. It's light and exotic, wonderful stuff. Those cases were the largest magnesium castings available in their day. Cutting edge technology for the early seventies.
Who wants boring old aluminium for their engine (even if it's stronger ).

Bloody hell Paul, I went away for a bit and come back to find that the rusty tub is nearly finished; all the planets (and the Nicks) must be aligned or something. It's looking fantastic, so much nicer than that crappy old S Great colour choice, love all the details; look forward to seeing it in the metal.

Just to add my girls' twopenneth in - have just stumbled across this thread - 'restoration threads' wasn't something I always 'clocked'...especially being on the beginning of my journey/learning curve with all things 911. Looks an extremely special car, very much looking forward to seeing the finished article.

This is a really inspirational project, and the pictures are a terrific resource for future reference - problem is every time I see a new picture with immaculate clean parts, my own project gats larger.

Oh well, back to the powder coat, zinc coat etc. to see what I can come up with.

Paul/ Nick, I am interested to know your reasons behind the choice of these iron lined cylinders, as opposed to a nikasil type such as "nickies"?

Paul's cylinders are in fact NSC-plated, CNC billet, solid aluminum Nickies, with JE pistons

A set of 3.0 aluminium cases is 28 Kg, the 2.7 7R set is 18 Kg
