Did you see the film of Chris Rea showing the replica he had built to Phil Hill? Hill was absolutely overcome, quite amazed.

I loved how humble Chris Rea was, too... Quite an emotional moment.

My thoughts exactly. For me the best moment was when Hill asked if he could get in the car, Rea's reply was perfect!

I posted the wrong video, the correct (longer) one with more of Hill being astounded is on the video thread

I remember when he was killed - driving his Elan in Chelsea at high speed & went through a red light before crashing into a lorry.
Rumour has it that the crash was the 'inspiration' behind the opening lines of 'A Day in the Life' (Beatles Sgt Pepper album) ...

The accident was in South Kensington, sat in the car in the picture above is Dave Vaughn. He painted it, as part of the BEV art collective - a pioneering pop-art trio founded by Douglas Binder, Dudley Edwards, and David Vaughan
Picture of the LOTUS, his girlfriend in the car survived, only to be killed in a car crash in the 1980’s - very sad all of it.

“I read the news today, oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph.
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed.
A crowd of people stood and stared.
They’d seen his face before.
Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords.”

It is a Cannon GT Coupe’

designed and built by Mike Cannon, to beat the all-conquering Divas, which were ruling the roost in the UK's small-capacity GT classes in the 1960s.
It features a lightweight fibreglass and aluminium body on a tubular steel space frame.
The car is equipped with Lotus Elan 26R running gear and a 1,098cc all steel ‘screamer’ Ford engine, incorporating some Martin parts, which drives via a Ford straight-cut close-ratio gearbox, built to compete in the small capacity class of GT racing.
Only two of these cars are believed to have been completed
