Small update! As the car is hibernating this winter to avoid encouraging any more rust (I've had enough of that!) I finally decided to get the wheels refurbished, a job I've been putting off since I bought the car.
Work done by Early 911 down in Sussex:

Oh and the cracked one:

Whilst I would not normally advocate welding of wheels I'm going to have to get over it as I can't source a replacement. So it's off to a man that knows of these things in the morning and then, as long as it goes OK, back down to Sussex to finish the refurb process which stopped half way when they found the crack.
Can't wait for the weather to turn (and the salt to go!) so I can get out in the car again.

Bugger on the crack
. As you know, a couple of years ago I found 2 of my wheels were cracked , everyone should check their wheels as it's more common than you think.

Hi Gary
Shinny ones look great. Bit of a bugger about the crack. I wonder if flat 6 are more susceptible to cracking than others. I give my deep 6 a quick look rack time I wash them. Maybe I should look a little harder.

They have a really sharp edge around the edge of the hole in the rim from where it is blanked out which is just asking for it to crack!
If the welding (of the two cracks!) goes OK I'm going to very lightly break the corner remove any notches before sending it back to Mr Moss.

Time for an update...
I've not done anything to it!
At some point I guess it just becomes a car/toy rather than a project and now I just drive it rather than fix it which is odd...

Although I've owned the car for 13 years and driven many, many hard miles I've never had the engine apart except for doing the timing chains and ramps a few years back. I have no idea of the overall mileage or previous rebuild history, but routine maintenance has been thorough in my time with the car anyway!
The engine is stock throughout, apart from turbo rocker covers, retaining Zeniths, iron cylinders & 3/4R mag case, and is matching numbers to the car. The original plan was for more power but the reality of cost and complexity going down that slippery slope meant I switched to a stock rebuild, particularly after measuring the pistons & cylinders and finding them to be serviceable.
So... Here we go

The apprentice took the carbs off and then I went over to see Keith (myatt1972) to borrow his engine stand.
A short time later:

At least one of the oil leaks was pretty obvious!

Ready to drop:

And up in one slick move from trolley balanced on jack, to motorbike lift and onto the stand.

I stuck the rocker covers on with some evil sealant last time around and spent a joy filled 2 hours getting them off. After that I had to buy two new upper rocker covers.
Note to self: Don't do this again! They didn't leak though...

Some exhaust abuse:

Nothing scary on the LH bank, hone marks still evident, no obvious lip (save the carbon build up)

I had been kidding myself to only do the top end, but I got over it and took it apart properly:

'Where there is doubt, there is no doubt' should be the moto for this one.
It turns out this was a good call:
Worn main bearings - Although just hanging in there

Completely shot intermediate shaft bearing:

Not entirely certain you should have carbon build up on the side of the piston... Two are like this.
