Yes, it's real. The story goes that the owner of the plane (a Saab Safir) lived near to the newly-built local bypass, so went over before it was opened, took measurements and worked out that he could make it under the span of the bridge. He asked his father to photograph it from above (you can see him standing on the bridge in the photo) but he pressed the shutter too soon and missed the perfect pic. Fortunately a friend was watching from nearby and managed to capture the moment on film...

That will be the G15 of Andy Russel, he has hillclimbed it for decades. Always says the chassis was rotton as hell all those years ago.
I lusted for a mini Marcos when at school in the '60's.

... and he had to get over the trees and embankment before getting low enough to get under the bridge.
He was very brave, I wonder if he survived into old age.
There is an old saying 'there are old pilots and bold pilots but few bold old pilots'

So you want a Metro 6R4 but can't quite afford it. How about building your own, using a Type R Vtec? On second thoughts, don't...

Check the wheels spacers and that excellent display of fabrication and welding skills. This is why we have IVA...

I totally agree with you, those welds look iffy, BUT, who is to say they are not 'fit for purpose'? Would IVA fail it on the opinion of the tester??
I suspect many an early kit car had the same welder and certainly, i can remember many 70's hot rods were much the same with a SBC in the front teasing all those diy engineered mods on WOT.

There used to be recently a Metro 6R4 in my class, a replica with a V6 Mitsubishi engine mid ships that was beautifully done, RW drive, slow but was a nice car imho.
Also regularly an 800 bhp real 6R4 that is devastatingly fast, properly engineered by a man/specialist with a Doctor level qualification in mechanical Engineering, race car quality everywhere.

Above welding and joint design more difficult to look at the more i see it, but just my opinion.
