.

Unfortunately many Porsches of this era (& later) were spoilt by their dreadful grey interiors ... :pukeright:

I'm sure they could but it would be a major undertaking ...

They can - I did it, wasn’t that bad to be honest. Mine had light grey seats and carpet, not my thing….

Gave me a chance to sort imperfections and damage at the same time. I found a company that did the whole kit - by far the biggest challenge is getting into the seams and drying them with a blower without burning your hands, so they don’t stick together

I guess new - or used - black seats and carpets could be another option? Singer must have loads that they just throw away! In fact I know they do - I’ve seen stripped 964 shells and everything else (which they don’t want) in skips at Woodford Halse…

The Knokke-Heist sale had late-production 550-082, originally special-ordered in Yellow with Green darts. More good news was interesting history with ’57 Le Mans start, races at Nurburgring, Spa & Silverstone followed by a national class rally title wearing one of the first Apal bodies

Despite the guide proclaiming a “comprehensive restoration was then embarked upon, which included rectifying the new bodywork so as to be exactly like the original body on 082”, details such as the brake cooling ducts and oil cooler cover were absent. Taking this car to market in a yellow vinyl wrap was ill-advised. With 4-cams out of favour, 082 sold for €2.2m (€2.53m with prem) against a (revised down on the day) estimate of €3.4m to €3.9m

At Silverstone, believed to be May ‘56

The original Wendler body was used as aggregate in the building of the Apal factory. Note the short wheelbase, vents and Kamm tail

For the cost of unwrapping that it seems cheap or are there other issues? That said I know nothing about 550 prices

Hi Neil, the 550 market is pretty thin but the recent trend is reserve not met which is telling in itself. At c. £2.1m 550-082 seems a much better buy than £2.025m for sister 550-079 we saw in 2022

Both 082 & 079 were raced by female drivers, have been re-bodied and featured in this factory promo

I suspect when he did the flywheel he fitted an RS solid unit and ditched the dual mass, which requires a different cover plate

This looks like it could be a lot of fun for ~£28k (at Williams Crawford):
