Ha ha - I bought a cheapo tin one a few year back and then massively strengthened it

.
Great update - & ambitious deadline you've set for yourself !

On a side note - how's the Alpine (maybe a separate thread - or an update on the Alpine one ...) ?

Nothing like a deadline to focus the mind!
Best of luck!

Before I put the wing on I thought I’d replace the knackered oil flexi-pipes.

In spite of my long lever and a similarly long one holding the other nut in place the 36mm nut wasn’t moving - the pipe started to bend.

I’m therefore going to get some new pipes - the aim is to get them by the weekend and fit them this week-end

Great lever bar, just missing a bag of bonding there Image

Good luck with the deadline, great progress so looks doable if you don’t encounter any unforeseens....

I used a sash clamp as a spring compressor once.
Didn’t end well

Who knew they aren’t that strong?

Heat, a 12" plumbers spanner (36mm) and a sharp tap on the end with a lump hammer. Works most times for us.

THanks for the tip Jon - of course then I had to give that a try this morning before work - if it worked I wouldn’t need new pipes; if it did work then I’d need them by Friday.

Gave it some heat and a good smash with a hammer but no joy. New pipes it is!

On the plus side I know the joint to the thermostat should be OK as I replaced that a couple of years ago

The alpine is magnificent and fully lived up to high expectations. I’ve updated the alpine thread

Sladey - this is a brilliant saga..... all the talk of the Highlands tour 5 years ago reminds me of the race you (& I) had to get the cars ready for CLM that year....

Carbon boot & deck lid.... you've gone all posh on us. Loving that Alpine btw.... such a cool car.

THanks guys - appreciate the feedback

Had a minor setback today when the short flexible oil pipes I ordered a week ago still hadn’t turned up (yet the long hard ones I ordered on Wednesday arrived Thursday!) - I’ve therefore postponed the MOT from Monday to Wednesday - hoping that I’ll be able to fit them properly with the wing in situ

I’ve been using the midweek nights to take a bit of pressure off the week-end - finished the welding of the slam panel on Thursday night and then tonight Iv’e ground the welds down and painted the front in epoxy mastic so it will hopefully be dry for tomorrow

Am pretty sure I fitted my (then) new oil pipes with the wings in situ,.....don’t recall taking the freshly painted wings off to do that bit of the re-build.....

Sorry I’ve not updated it - been a bit busy either working on the car or going away.

OK so to pick up where I left off, the oil pipes were knackered and new ones were ordered.

When taking the wing off I’d noticed that the old impact bumper support area was looking pretty rubbish so I knew there would be some welding needed there

So here what you see are a couple of mini jigs - there are two bolts that come out of the inner wing and I didn’t want to lose their position as I cut away the rot so these strips of metal once screwed in place let me hold the position
