Just take a taster flight Graham. Great experience and really gives you an idea if it’s for you. My dad got hooked after a taster session birthday present.. sooner is better as there are medical criteria if you want to continue.

We last flew to north Wales in Phil's Europa landing in the local spur.
Spent a good 4 hours in the plane, wife was worried I would want to fly...

Also in the same year went up in a modern glider. Definitely not for me, really unimpressed.

I just love these planes, the shape and how they are made and all that, so I see a birthday pressie coming up!

I passed my 'test' in a C152. G-BODO out of Enstone. I took ages to get to that point though. I first went solo in a Piper Tomahawk PA38 in 2002, and have been lucky to know a lot of aircraft owners who have let me have a go P1 in theirs. My favourite aircraft is a tie between a PA18 Super Cub, and my mate's Bolkow 207. Both taildraggers, which makes things trickier, and is deserving of its own licence amendment.

Its a great thing to do, good for your brain to try and drive in 3 dimensions. The very best thing you can have is a mate who is madly keen, or even better a pro pilot.

I have let my skills lapse somewhat as life has got in the way of that sort of thing, but it would be nice to pick it up again.

Too much #### for me at my stage in life, but just fancy a bit of time in a 172.

Been in the air in a number of v nice light aircraft in the USA where the 'dimension' seems so appropriate, the radial biplane was something else though...

An hour up in one of those in northern California seemed so right.

For me, the best looking light aircraft ever.

anyone actually been up or flown in one?

Many years ago, in Zimbabwe, I was at the controls for about half an hour of a slightly bigger aircraft - a Cessna 210 maybe (?) with retractable undercarriage. It was a wonderful experience.

Aviation is quite a small world, isn't it! My skills test/renewal was the last time I flew G-BODO. I did most of my flying training out of Enstone in G-BMVB.
