Now with protective epoxy mastic applied.

I booked it into the body shop today - for October.

By then I’ve got to replace the front slam panel and check out some corrosion near the windscreen which I’m hoping is surface stuff - we’ll see!

OK a bit more of an update, and a new deadline!

Before I left the rear of the car it was niggling me that I could see what looked like some corrosion on the wing near the oil tank.

Image

I thought I could get a wire brush in there on a stick and then paint it, but I soon realise I’d have to do it properly, so took the oil tank out

This is what it looked like inside

Image

Yep - not nice.Ironically the bit I had been worried about was just surface rust. - the problem bit was around the rear light. - I hadn’t even spotted that.

And yes you can see daylight through that crack

OK so welding up a hole onto thin metal isn’t the easiest thing to do so I used the old copper trick

Image

Clamped onto the outside and then welded from the back (after taking off the flakey stuff inside. After a while that left me with a solid base on the inside and I was able to finish off from the outside and clean it up

Now inevitably while there oil tank was out of the car I decided to strip it and repaint it.

While stripping it down I found this

Image

Not too clever I think you’ll agree - It wouldn’t be long before this snapped off
