Thanks again fellas :)

While all the exhaust stuff has been going on, I've also continued making the mirrors.
I think my last post on them was the finished cones & pedestals

As before they have been micro tig stainless welded & dressed out with a Dremel before polishing.

Been a bit busy of late with another BIG project that a few select DDKr's know about (to be revealed at NEC this weekend) but thought I should update progress on the 997.
So back to business making upsized stainless fixings to hold the mirror bowl to the cone.

Roughing down some 25mm stainless bar

Drilling out & tapping M8

Then parting off after cutting a taper on the reverse

Next the face was machined into a replica dome profile matching the original 70's mirror end fixing
bolt4.jpg
Next the screw slot was cut by hand using two blades in my hacksaw clamped together

Then finished with swiss files

During the process I regularly checked it against one of the prototyping aluminium spun cones

And also checking the underside taper fit

Before embarking on ever increasing fineness Wet & dry polishing

The process was then repeated for the other mirror to make a matching pair once I'd sussed the first one out

And then check fitted in my actual Stainless Mirrors
