Out on my bike today and came across this not far from the bottom of Box Hill. Half a mile up the road was a very nice white SC in someone’s garden

.

Yes - finally !

It's been a long drawn-out process - first the delay in getting the UK registration processed with DVLA & then ordering a set of Italian-style/size pressed metal number plates without noticing that the supplier was closing the following day for their annual holidays ...

I watched the video of that yesterday - it made 1950bhp just before grenading! Not bad for a diesel.

Mike wrote:Just as an aside, Spitfire PL983 was looked after at the time by a lovely guy called Martin Sergeant who was up for the picture to commemorate the 60th anniversary in 2000. He asked a display pilot mate of his to fly it that day, as Martin wanted to fly me in his Harvard to take the picture.

Sadly a few years later Martin was killed flying the Spitfire at a display in France, the engine failed and on lining up for the alternative emergency runway found it was crowded with spectators so Martin had no choice but to veer away and crash.

A sad day indeed. Martin's hangar is not far from our house and we had just moved into the house when one Saturday, he came flying up the valley and did a victory roll over the house. I knew i was going to be happy in the house!

We get overflown by the Biggin Hill and Headcorn 2 seaters 2 or 3 times a day this time of year. Sometimes the Biggin Hill ones come in pairs.

Ironically, i have a pair of Luftwaffe anti aircraft 10x 80 binos set up outside specifically to look at the Spits. Also flying the RAF ensign in honour of The Few.

Was down in Otford yesterday and saw a Spitfire (No doubt out of Biggin Hill) alongside a “minder” plane. I figured someone was up there taking photos and was reminded of Mike’s mate.

The purpose of this pic is not the race car.
Left the pic BIG so you can see the Lancia. Only one in the UK I'm told.
