The 'Maverick' Classic Porsche Forum and Classic Porsche Club for Porsche 356, Aircooled Porsche 911, Porsche 912, Porsche 914 & Porsche Replicas. 'We join for the cars but stay for the people'
Always used to be a special day when I was in the cadets, and more recently Sam, our son, used to collect for the RAF Benevolent Fund on the Tamar Ferry over Battle of Britain weekend.
We must never forget.

On hols at the moment and bought the Haynes Supermarine Spitfire restoration book to read.
What a machine so detailed in this book, a machine that must have complimented and strengthened those very young warriors in the day.
We are all so lucky to have had them all on our side.

My racing number is 43 - my late fathers Spitfire Squadron - too late for Battle of Britain but he did win one of the last DFCs of the war flying one.
And later in life he drove an Alfa GTV.
He taught me a lot about life ( and women)

Just as an aside, Spitfire PL983 was looked after at the time by a lovely guy called Martin Sergeant who was up for the picture to commemorate the 60th anniversary in 2000. He asked a display pilot mate of his to fly it that day, as Martin wanted to fly me in his Harvard to take the picture.
Sadly a few years later Martin was killed flying the Spitfire at a display in France, the engine failed and on lining up for the alternative emergency runway found it was crowded with spectators so Martin had no choice but to veer away and crash.
cheers, Mike.

The good news though is that after a 12 year restoration PL983 is back flying again, this time in it's wartime photo reconnaissance blue livery, but more importantly now with a new message painted on it's underside.....
You might have seen it overhead during the pandemic.....
cheers, Mike.
