Great update Richard .

I think it also really illustrates just how much work goes into painting a car. You'd really think that with the filling and priming sorted, a quick flash over with some sealer, and bish bash bosh, job's ready for painting. But no, another whole set of processes to work through.

I pity poor Rich being forced to go the 'rough and ready' route in places, much harder than it looks. A bit like doing 'random' tiling at home, amazing how many times you have to change the tiling around for them to look random. Texture on the underseal looks good to my eyes BTW .

Believe me, this seriously goes against the grain and has taken a lot of training, and I mean…….a LOT!

Ref the scoops, and the slightly disturbing analogy drawn there, all I can say is, Steve had them on his....so I guess keeping them is what you could call having "skin in the game" as the Americans might say....

Thanks Barry, I think they are taking your work and showing it at it's best. And you're right, there's a lot of studied work gone into this. Poor Rich has really been given a hard objective on this...for a perfectionist to be told "can you make it look like you didn't really care that much" has been a tough call for him. And fair play, his attention to roughness details has been fantastic.....

Wait till you get the first colour shots.....oh yes, we have an update for you over the weekend. Green is back...and wait til you see how beautifully rough it is on the inside

So now it's time to go for colour. I'm keen not to over-restore, so important that we went for the 'spartan' interior. There's loads of protection from the high-build primer, so no need to put loads of paint down here. The factory took a very minimal approach to paint inside the car, generally it was just overspray from the outside that settled in. The under-bonnet got a quick blow over so the whole thing was rough and ready. And paint-saving for the factory!

So Rich has worked really hard to get these details in.....











Overall, looks like this....





Under the wings will be black, but we're not going to be painting the underside..... If you look at the originals, all they have is 'black' overspray from the bottom of the sills and then waxoyl...that's what we're going to do....

So it looks like this,

Inside the car itself was a similar story...just a quick blow over







And some details like this which is what we found on the rear seat base:





And in the engine-bay - this will be blacked-over, but needs the colour underneath it so that over time it will show through the black.





I have to say, I think this looks pretty authentic, it's just like it was when we took it to bits. Except cleaner. And without the rust. And the holes.....

Simply wonderful !!

First colour, and it looks great.

The end is in sight!

Now that's what you call a proper paint restoration. Bravo!

You should be so proud of the work of you and your team.
Great to see expertise coupled with enthusiasm. It's a rare thing.
The pictures showcase a new level of finish not achieved before (that I have seen).
Others disagree with what you have done and the way you have done it but I think you and Richard have worked towards taking things one step further.

This was the standard of finish I was hoping for from my painters but they didn't get it correct. Looks very nice. Richard=excited.

Congratulations, you guys really took it one step further with this paint job. A pleasure to read and a reference point for many, many other Early 911 restaurations.
