Geoff's doing well - he's 83 now and still drives his Ultima, along with a 3.2 Carrera. I worked off and on for Autocavan over the years, running their workshop, looking after rallycross cars, crewing at the race meets etc. Ended doing all their advertising artwork in the 1990s before the company was eventually sold. By far and away the best aftermarket VW (and to a degree, Porsche) specialists of its time. Happy days.

He showed me round the 356 race car, and how he had drilled 3 holes in the head of every M8 bolt head etc throughout the car. It was a real lesson in lightness….wonderful
That will have been after John swapped all of the original 14mm headed M8 nuts and bolts for "modern" 13mm ones to save weight! 8)

Reminds me of a feature where Yellowbird took on all comers (including a deuce of 959s) at 211mph. Internet says Road & Track but I'm pretty sure a British mag ran the story too?

Clearly nonsense. Nothing is faster than a Testarossa.

Joshing aside I’d very much get down and dirty with that Ruf SC. Looks ace.

I struggle with the idea of a 356 Carrera with no 4-cam in it, that's priced like a Carrera

I presume John Lucas's car, although I think you'd struggle to find a Carrera with its original four-cam for the same price these days...

If you can live without numbers matching you could have had this one for CHF320k c. £286k last month

When I was parked next to Simon Bowrey's GT at CATC I couldn't hear if my engine was running over the thunder from his Sebring so I'd probably beg, steal or borrow the extra for this one €354k c. £302k
