Ah, superleggera ! Not a word you often hear spoken out loud, especially growing up in Yorkshire.

I've spent a good part of my life thinking to myself the pronunciation was super-leg-ara, never actually needing to use the word in conversation and then one evening, in Pizza Express of all places, there was a Supeleggera Pizza on the Menu. The Italian waitress said 'Sooperlejeerah ? ' and in that one moment my life changed for ever.

Makes me wonder why anyone would think a super light pizza would be a good idea... and what other words am I pronouncing incorrectly to myself ? :)

Apparently also known as Super leg over.
Correct in Italian is something like Superlejera

I think you may have been sampling the Barrolo a bit too much. There is a pizza called a 'leggera' which is lightweight in that it has a large hole in the middle usually filled with salad leaves. The double g in Italian is usually pronounced as a j.

It was a long time ago, wine may have played a part, I'm sure you're right.

I had one for about five years. The engine sounded like my old Boxster but it was gutless and thirsty though the car was very reliable and comfortable on a run. A good car ruined by a peaky six and a crap auto box.
