Passed the bodyshell trolley onto James (Easylife) this morning when he popped over with Tim (Impmad2000). Great to catch up and talk old cars for a bit.

Then onto a quick fuel pump rebuild as it just went ‘clunk’ rather than ‘whir’ when I powered it up.

Fuel had dried the rotor to the case.

All working now, successfully pulled fuel through from a jerrycan



Then onto the engine…

Emerged from its cover after 3 years


Jobs to do are to replace the crank seal and helicoil the gearbox studs.


I tried the crank seal replacement and managed to damage it, so that’s any hope of engine noises this weekend blown.

So I’ll get on with less exciting things this afternoon

Like making the horn work…



Little bit of work getting a 914 wheel to fit a 911 as it isn’t entirely plug and play, but it’s on!

The car looks spectacular in real life. I look forward to the 1st meet up at C&M. Good luck with the next steps. Take care

Quick safety tip for all…
I’ve done the learning for you…

Don’t be tempted not to put the big washers on during installation as ‘I’m just popping the bolts in for now to secure it’

This results in the centre of the mount pulling out just with the weight of the engine and dropping it onto the floor with an almighty bang.

I wasn’t even in the garage when there was a massive bang that shook the house.



One went like this, the others took the rubber out of the housing.

New parts on order and we try again… just got to work out how to get the engine off the floor…

Lesson learnt fit them when you first fit the engine…

Think so, to be honest I shut the garage door and left it once I worked out what had happened. Kind of took the edge off the evening!

Gary, if we ever meet in person I’ll share an equally embarrassing story with you. Suffice to say you’re not alone

Lever each side of the engine up and slide wood under the heat exchangers et until you jack will go under.
Best news is you were not under the lot when it dropped...

I was only a few minutes earlier eying up oil pipes…

Good news!
Working on my Lola engine has given me a serious shoulder damage, will miss a lot of the season.
Don't remember doing it!
