Wheels and tires come together in not so perfect harmony!
I need to modify the metal work to accommodate the big bully 9" rears. A tool has been ordered to roll the arches. Best done now before top coat paint I guess!!

And finally Christmas Wishes and a tree to all of those tuning in!

By way of an update...
It has been a while since my last posting on Project Blue Book. I thought might be time to look at it.
The wiring loom is all but complete. I need the shell back to lay everything out and place/ trim to fit. I am going to be adding a lot of electrical extras so decided to make an extra fuse box to fit under the dash.

Should match nicely with the original one!
More in a bit....

Thanks Toby. You are a STAR!
Next little project...DAS FAN BOY

Converting the engine to a 912-911 fan set up.
Managed to bag a 5 blade fan as apposed to the normal 11 type.
Air cooled engines can suffer just as much from being over cooled as under cooled. 'I' believe this is the best option for the project.

Then for the mat lacquer :puh:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Trying to get a 'Titanium' look to the paint here. I did experiment with a kinda putty/ orange colour to make it look like the old fibreglass ones on the race cars. but I couldn't quite get the colour right.

I then moved onto a little project that I have wanted to do forever.
I had an old oil filter of off a 356 that I thought I could modify into the oil catch tank.

Image

Image

Image

Image

So I cut off the small inlet boss. Then drilled out another hold on the opposite side to allow AN8 bosses to be fitted. Also the hole at the bottom to allow the oil to drain back into the engine.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Alot of you will know that Porsche did a filter in orange with a black top.
I didn't have a whole lot of choice with 'Lockdown' and rooted out a new can of paint from my cupboard that matched. Silver would have been nice but hey ho!

Awful job next!
Cleaning the engine to try and find out why it was leaking soooo much oil when hot. Also to start to mock-up how will look with the various hairbrained ideas I have planned

Project 'Engine Clean'

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Tranfered onto the engine stand. I was trying to be all 'Health & safety' but couldn't at the stand under the lift. I ended up just lifting the engine by hand and inserting it into the stand. Try doing that with a '6'

Image

Image

Image

A close friend refered to this as 'Darth Vader's' helmet!

Image

Image

Now for the tricky bit :o
Measure, measure and measure again before cutting!

Image

Image

The lovely valve covers were made for me in America by Travis.
These are to fit the type 4 engine and look the 'Dogs Danglies!'

Getting a feel for how this is going to look.
A while ago I managed to bag a pair of 912 air cleaners. I think these will look just right with the engine configuration. They again will need a fair bit of modification. However on this project, what doesn't

Image

Just the other one to do now. Then I can look at the bases. These will need work to fit with the throttle bodies.

Very cool, great progress. That engine is going to look super cool, just a shame you can’t see much of it on a 914!
