I think it really emphasises what a stunning piece of design it was.

There was a great programme on TV a couple of nights ago about McLaren - in the early days with Bruce - & there was some great footage of Can-Am racing with Bruce McLaren & Denny Hulme.

IMO that series saw some of the greatest racing from a spectator's point of view.

I wasn't at any of the original series of races but I did get to see some of the cars first hand when they were competing in the Steinberger Supersports series in the late '80's/early'90's & one car that stands out in my memory was Charlie Agg's McLaren M8F - complete with ~1100 bhp twin-turbo 8.1 litre Chevrolet V8 !!

The sight & sound of it* blasting around Brands Hatch was unforgettable ...

* I was about 2 feet behind the car in the pits when the engine was started

This is a similar car:

I'm guessing the programme is/was the same as the DVD 'McLaren' released a little while back. If so, it's excellent, isn't it?

My TC was collected earlier to day & is heading off to a 'new' owner ...

I finally realised that I wasn't going to get around to restoring it in the foreseeable future so decided to sell it - funnily it's going back to the person I bought it from 9 years ago !

I'd love that - get it running and drive it looking like that. Bruce (Sportwagen) Cooper was having a clear out about 16 years ago and among the stuff he was getting rid of was a TC, which had been restored many years ago and then left to fester. I could have had it for £8K. Said yes but then it transpired his brother decided he wanted it, so I lost out. Oh well...

Does that mean that you never drove it Andy ? If you did what was it like ?

Funnily enough Russell Edmonds said the same several years ago when he saw it, - sort out the mechanicals (which wouldn't have involved a great deal of work) & drive it to the Revival.

Problem was that the main body tub & parts of the ash frame needed a fair bit of attention.

I drove it in & out of the garage a few times when I first got it but no further than that.

I did drive a couple of TC's briefly about 10 yrs ago - seem to remember that the ride was very 'hard' ...

Went to the WEC practice day today to see the Le Mans cars and more.
Very quick, very noisy too.

The McLaren film was very good indeed, rare to see a person who can design it, make it and drive it..name another individual?
An old friend of mine was a pro race mechanic and looked after one of the 8 litre Can Am's, he loved it and he series.
Huge car when you get up close.
