This old barge went home yesterday after extensive rear end work. It’s 1947, very British and quite appealing, even drives well.

Laurence Pomerey ran one for Autocar in the late fifties when they were about the same price as a 3 litre modern. The magazine said it could be a company car. He enjoyed it, didn’t mind that it wasn’t terribly fast because if you were going to be late, it was the car to be late in. These days when I drive them, I’m perpetually held up by inattentive dawdlers.

I’d love one of those. I stupidly passed on a works one many years ago. The engines was dismantled and parts would have been an issue.

That's very gorgeous Andy, how does the driving/living with it compare with the 356? W

Thanks for the compliments.

Winston - now that I've carried out a variety of modifications to make it a bit more 'civilised' for road use it really is a great car - although very noisy due to being stripped of any sound deadening/carpets (lots of mechanical noise transmitted from the gearbox/back axle & plenty of engine noise from the induction & cams) - but that's just how I like my cars ...

It has lovely light/precise steering & is very 'chuckable' with great handling/roadholding on the 155 x 15 tyres - reasonably quick too for a '50's car with a mere 1300cc engine (especially when wound up to 7500 rpm !) ...

It’s gorgeous Andy. Is it as good to drive as it is to look at?

Might be MoT exempt very soon, but not from the reach of the law if it is deemed dangerous.
Mind you, tub of filler and a few rattle cans will fix the evidence.
