New flap release cable, bump stop & screw nipple finishes the filler area. New washer jets and tank clamps… getting there!

Good to see at least some parts are original

Fitting the wiper linkage is fun as ever, but it’s obvious the factory did it with the strap attached and wiring unplugged, then slide it in and connect it through the speaker and clock holes.

When I tried it this way it was 5 mins, rather than the unproductive 30 I spent trying to connect the bottom of the strap!


Dry build of this messy area is underway. So many wires and control cables. I’m going to put it all together then take it apart again and tidy it up with 100 tie wraps once I know everything is in the right place.
The column cover is a horrible self coloured moulding with fibres on the surface so there’s no way to prep it to make it look nice. So this will have to do.


I also tried a bit harder on the number plate lights with some new stainless screws and fibre washers to protect the paint. Bit fiddly, but finally done!

Those fibre washers are a good shout. I used nylon washers for the same reason on my carb covers.

You need to engineer a tool to ensure the washers are correctly centred whilst tightening the retaining screw.

As I haven’t signed up to the DDK sewing club I’ve employed the services of my Mother to make up a new headlining.

I’ve marked it up and fingers crossed she will be able to sew a straight line!

After busting my ageing body changing brakes and wheel bearings on my wife’s TT yesterday I could barely move so something a bit more therapeutic today. Polishing.

Trouble is after a couple of hours the therapeutic effects wear off and it’s just boring!

Anyway, got the passenger side frame done today and dry fitted, so next job will be rebuilding the 1/4 glass and onto the door to match the other side.



My new door trim arrived from Porsche earlier in the week so that’s the drivers door finished.

The alignment to the 1/4 window chrome is going to annoy me… I checked and the new chrome is about 4mm narrower than the old bit I took off. New OE Porsche as well.

Think I’ll give them a ring next week as it’s not cheap this stuff!

Spent a little time on it and I think we have a fix, it’s nearly there, I’m going to have to stop or it’s going to annoy me!

To resolve the mismatch I ‘dressed’ (i.e hit it with a block of wood) the 1/4 window flange to gain 1mm. The rest came from trimming the door trim profile to the window frame. The clips don’t work then so the rear three have been replaced with 3M tape. The gap isn’t parallel, and it looks different from every angle, but there is genuinely nothing I can do about that one!
