Having left the removal of the wiring loom for the interior lights while I thought about how awkward it may be to refit, I decided yesterday to remove it but it would not come out. I had another go at it today and once it eventually came out I could see why I had so much trouble.



The rust around the bottom of the windscreen has surely reduced the space for the loom from when it got put in, as seen on the left of the photo. Only a small job but a sense of achievement as yesterday I was wondering how I could be defeated by such a simple task. Of course, I am even more unsure of how it will go back in but that is a challenge for another day (many days away).

Up early on Saturday for a drive over to Oulton Park for the season opener .

First time I've seen the 250cc karts run here . Lapping the full circuit in 1.40 mins . Impressive .

The outer sheath of a bicycle brake cable down the A pillar is the best lead line I've discovered so far.

Out of hibernation and newly shod with 7R's on the rear and flat sixes up front with winter cookie cutters put into storage. Took her for the gentle shakedown run to discover a fuel leak, now fixed at the roadside, and the rear offside hub getting VERY hot. Carefully made my way home for further investigation. Hoping it's just caused by 4 months of inactivity.

Where was the fuel leak from? I've had issues with fuel pipes before after winter storage

Rear hub, handbrake mech sticking ?

The fuel leak was at the joint of the hard and flexible line beneath the fuel filter console. I think that is the 'out' pipe but wasn't hanging around to check as the fuel was running out and I didn't have my extinguisher with me (doh). I'm wondering if it has always had a slight weep as I have always been down on mpg compared to the RS and perhaps the winter layoff just expanded/contracted the joint and opened it up more. Anyway, sorted once I found it.

Yeh, hoping the hand break is sticking on one side. Lubrication is what I hoping will be all that's needed.

Well not today but on Sunday had a quick check of the oil etc.

Used the best bit of kit I have to protect the rear end

Finally got my oil tank out so that I could replace a broken bracket and I also fitted my starter motor. Question is after clean it what should I do to protect the tank? Is it OK to paint...

I've fitted up a solar charger for my 356. After a discussion with my Dad, who unlike me understands electronics, I decided that the amps on this 12v solar panel would be ok on a 6v battery. I believe it's watts = amps * volts. the panel delivers 1.8 watts so 1.8 / 12 = 0.15 amps which means 0.3 amps to a 6v battery so hopefully all is ok. Anyway nice weather for it. We took the 356 out for a spin on Sunday. What a pleasure to drive it. I've got a 123ignition distributor for the 912 which I'm hoping will make it run like the 356.

Met Russ at Castle Donington for a gander around the Historic race cars there for a test day...
