Hi Jos I have just read your resto thread, I had read some of your posts in 911 and chat but only just look'ed at this. Nice car and nice work once I started I just had to read to the end, I hope you soon get out to drive it and hope your wife is well enough to go with you and enjoy the trip. So its been a while....I have been waiting for Eric and his team to get the engine back together. From what I understand they used their regular engine builder who let them down with it. (I'm not certain what shenanigans went on but it went quiet for a while). One of the problems about being long distance is that sense of being out of control. I trust Eric completely but it would be great to be able to have a look at whats happening over a cup of tea 'on my way home'. The car is finished apart from the engine, so here are some pics of the journey so far. Forgive me if they aren't in the right order, I have never built one so Im just going on what Ive been sent or taken off Facebook.

A couple more pic before they put the engine in.

On Friday I got the fantastic news that the engine has been put into the car and we are now working towards the 18th of June as the date that everything will be finished. Flights to Salt Lake for the end of June have been booked to collect the car... I think I'm a bit of a wooss as this gives me butterflies thinking about it. I have decided this is because of several reasons;

I will be driving it 700 miles across the desert to L.A
I have little practical knowledge of what to do if something goes wrong. Last time I properly worked on a car was my old Beetle in 1989.
Responsibility of driving such a lovely car on foreign soil and not wanting to damage it....
I have never driven a Porsche
I don't want to get it nicked before I get it home
I don't have any license plates as Im not a US citizen so can't register it.

So after nearly 2 years the reality is finally dawning and I have to man up and get my head into a place where I will actually enjoy driving the car. It was never meant to be a garage queen however the guys have been so thorough that in the end it is pretty much perfect. Therein lies the responsibility but I'm hoping as soon as I get behind the wheel there also lies the thrill of realising a dream of owning and driving an early 911.

Any comments would be gratefully received along with any tips for the trip.

Hurrah! I have no practical advice to give aside checking the oil pressure, temp and levels regularly and until you get to know what normal is for the car- but there is a Haines manual you could read on the plane and an adjustable spanner is a useful tool!

Also read up on hot and cold start techniques.
