Parts, parts, where are my parts. Keep chasing and getting yes they will be here and sent out ASAP!

Managed to fit the lights front and back. Don't like the position of the back lights, they look to high to me, maybe will look different when bumper is fitted. I used the various measurements on-line, those marks on the body and measured my coupé. Everything is within the IVA dimensions, min 350mm for brakes and indicators and 500 mm min to the headlight. 400 mm from edge. Front head lights (currently 520 mm) will be low and rears (currently 390mm) will be on the limit if the car ride height is eventually set 40 mm ish lower.

Just checking that you measured from the floor to the bottom of the lights and indicators etc??

Olly, can't take any credit for the louvres, Gary at Speedster Clinic offers it as an option.

Rich - yea measured from the floor which is reasonably level. If need be I can just adjust the suspension up, remembering to get the light beams set right.

Any ideas if a floor mounted head light dimmer switch is IVA ok?

Yea, hinge packers arrived this afternoon. I had a series of 8mm, 2mm, 1mm and 0.5mm plates laser cut in stainless steel. They fit fine and give some precise adjustability. Fitted the drivers door and gaps looking good, still some room for improvement but will leave that to later when I hit the body/ paint phase.

Nothing is mentioned about the location of switches etc. Just that anything within a 127mm radius of edge of the steering wheel will be exempt of the sphere 165mm sphere test.

It does mention that anything 150mm up from the lowest part of the seat, being we're you park your arse. Below that (basically the pedal area) will be checked using 100mm sphere for sharp edges. So depending on the radius of the switch it could pass...

Also noticed your windscreen not fitted yet. If you fit it for Iva make sure it's E marked otherwise it won't pass. What you doing for the door glass? If using wind-up windows that glass needs to be E marked also.

It will be a nude car that goes for IVA test. No windscreen, side glass, heaters, bumpers, badges, deco strips, grill, carpets, sound insulation, small petrol tank, only fresh primer paint.

Would I need to fill the windscreen post holes in the body back in for the test?

Looking at the dimmer switch, there is provision on the steering column so may leave floor mounted switch till later.

I have a few ideas on side glass, the hardtop allows for better sealing if I use electric or wind up windows. The key will be to fabricate an ali section that blends the curve of the windscreen to match the flat glass. Also looked at how AC Cobras over come the problem. They use a top hinge or front post hinge with sliding glass. Not original but kinda cool

Bit of a pain to fill the body back in but better look. Just need to make sure ok for IVA at 350 mm min height to bottom of lights and 400 mm max in from edge.

Great thread, but I can't believe the crap you have to go through for SVA approval!

Keith it not as bad as it sounds on paper.
It's just the same rules that the major car manufactures have to comply with. I'd estimate an easy £1000 to put it through IVA, it's more peace of mind if your car was to be written of that your insurer was going to pay out in the event if an accident. Otherwise you could be heavily out of pocket and a broken car...

Better to do it now whilst your waiting for parts than regretting it when painted...

At least the IVA test gives a driver/ buyer a level of confidence the car is road worthy.

Moved the lights, much better. You can see how far I have moved them down. The reflector should fit nicely spaced between the lights and bumper. Cant wait until the shine down light and reflectors arrive!



Maybe the wiring loom will arrive next week.

Would appreciate some help. I have been working on the dash/ dial layout using 911 circa 1986 dials.

Questions;
What are the warning lights on the top of the Speedo and Tacho for? and what colours are they? I assume head light/ main beam?
Will indicator lights in the Tacho meet IVA as they are green?
I guess the dials just push into the dash and the gasket acts to hold into place?
There does not appear to be a warning light for the handbrake engagement, was that on a separate light?
Have I missed any other warning lights/ switches?



The three switch down the left are flush mounted Brake fluid level/ Hazard/ Screen wash
Head light switch is from a modern 997 so covers the rear fog light on/ off and running lights issue etc

After IVA the plan is to back date the dials with chrome bezels and green on black writing.

To answer the question about the green indicators lights in the tacho, they will be fine for Iva

Does the light switch incorporate a warning light for the rear fog light?

You don't need to wait until after Iva to back date the dial to green and black etc. Are you zeroing the speedo?

Are you allowed to zero the clock?
