What do I know, I`m just joining in the chat, pretending I know what I`m talking about.

That`s the problem with this forum, it`s full of people who know loads of stuff.

Week 5 was more of the same but on the near side front inner wing.

Again a repair to the floor edge was required.



The bottom of the nearside A pillar was full of masking tape and filler.





New for old.



And fitted.



The bottom part of the inner wing was fabricated and trial fitted.



And then the repair section was finished



Everything was then offered up to see how it fitted.

The next area Barry tackled was the offside rear chassis leg. The end should have a round hole and this had been battered at some point, also a 3rd hole had been drilled into the underside possibly to bolt the bumper on after the original fixing was damaged.





Barry chopped a bit of chassis leg out.



Repaired the hole.



Painted the inner chassis leg and re-welded the cutout back into the Chassis leg section.





One of the oil tank reinforcing plates was also replaced during this operation.

Scary mate!! Hate to think what lurks under the paint and sealer on my car.

The last area that received attention was the offside B pillar and surrounding area.

The B pillar reinforcing had all but dissolved, this area was removed along with the rear side window bottom flange.







A new section was magically made and fitted.





So the offside is looking a lot better, only area that needs attention is the torsion tube area.

Barry has spent most of this week on the front nearside windscreen corner. The scuttle, dash end and A pillar had all seen previous repairs that had been brazed. The scuttle was also very low and looked as if it had been crudely hammered down and then filled with about 10mm of filler. This area is time consuming to repair but an important structural area. The repair panel used is from Roger Brays.

This is how the screen jig fitted before Barry got to work.

Barry has been working between 20 and 30 hours a week at the moment so we have a bout 140 hours in on the shell. Lots of progress and the shell is begining to look like a straight solid shell

The offside (right) front windscreen corner has been repaired, this on was not as bad as the nearside but still needed attention.

New sills available from Porsche are 993 ones so require backdating. You can buy repro ones but the fit is poor.

Barry has spent quite a bit of time on the doors. The skin had a couple of dents in areas where it was difficult to access.





The bottom rear corner of the door had a little rust in-between the door frame and skin, this had blown the skin away from the frame.



You can see the blown skin, this should be flat across the straight edge.



Once the damaged area of the skin was removed the corroded frame was exposed.



Barry made up a new frame repair and fitted it.



And then a repair was made up for the skin.







Once welded in the repair is all but invisible



The skin now is flat.



So thats the first bit of work on an outside panel and its looking good
