Mark,
As Dom suggests, you need to get the MFI pump back to where it was before your 'mechanic' interfered with it. Only then can you begin to diagnose.

Mark,
Thanks Dave for your comments.
I just got back from a 66 mile journey on the M5/6. Once my car's cold idle goes off (on normal running setting), the car pulls very well. My car tends to buck after the car has run for a bit, and is not fully warm.
To check the fuel mixture, the car has to be at a running temperature.
Best
Dom

2.4E engine running problems update 2
Guys, thanks for al the advice.
I've now set the CO at approx.1000 RPM around the 5-6% mark (it was originally @ 8% and previous to this re-adjustment with my mechanic fiddling with it it was reading between 0.2 and 1.5%
). This richening seems to help the idle and overall running although it's still quite jerky when feathering the throttle...the CO is now about 5% at 3000rpm?
JZM advised that the Bosche points sets can be a little wayward and temperamental !!! due to the spring strength and build!!! they recommed trying a few to see. . . . .The Points installed were Bosche items - however the problem was originally there with the old set as well (+ it worked fine previously with the old set!). JZM mentioned rod and cam settings although I'm hesitant to blame rod lengths / fixed mechanical linkages as they were fine previously and would not have change length suddenly. They should deffinately be the last thing to re-adjust.
BTW when she was running below 1% CO at idle the oil temp was up around 210 degrees
now it's richened up it's still a bit high aound the 190/200 degree mark !!! Any idea's????
BTW again - when you hit 5900rpm the engine quites (like hiiting a limiter)...I'm sure that the red line is around 6500-6700rpm??? any idea's????
Perhaps another set of points & the pump timing are the next things to look at. Perhaps I'll have to book it in to set-up on the rolling rd£££? as advised by JZ Machtech?

Mark,
For what it's worth I still think you need to have the fuel pressure checked. It's where you are in the check measure adjust scheme of things and from what I understand it's critical on these engines. There are a couple of Bosch aservice centres around these parts that should have something. I used one in Luton a couple of years ago.
