I believe that the 1972MY E series 911's had a silver grille and gold letters, the black ones did not come in until the 1973 models.
I'm sure that there's someone out there with the definitive answer - 210bhp??

My October '71 built S has black grille and black letters and has never been restored...

Yes, black deck lid letters and grille in both 72 and 73. The black often faded to that purplish hue over the years. 72MY began production August 71.
72MY had chrome surrounds to the front and rear lights but black in 73. Exactly as Matt’s lovely car above.

There is a photo of the car pre restoration and as you can see mine were black. It’s a 71 build MY1972.

Not sure if there would have been any difference betweenl US and Euro spec

Yes there were - quite a few actually: all amber turn indicator lenses to front and all red to rear being one example

Aaah, sorry, I was confusing it with the chrome light surrounds.
My 1972 911S doesn’t score very highly in the originality stakes!
