Who on here remembers the old system?
I’m guessing it was around the mid nineties when the first whiff of Tax Exemption was being mooted for cars over 25 years old,(since then it has been stopped, re-started and adjusted to Forty years old) BUT the prior system was much different, we all paid tax on our old crocks, however those made before 1947 only paid half of this..
Perhaps there’ll be a return to a similar system?
Who knows.

I think that was because before 1947 things were taxed based on horsepower.

I guess that wouldn’t be a terrible system now. Better than 2.5 tonne 700bhp eleccy cars paying less than 900kg 50bhp petrol ones.
