DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I am a member of the PCGB WhatsApp group and got involved in the discussion pointing out that there was nothing for a 912 owner from the 912 register, it had been inactive for some time along with the register secretary. The DDk on the other hand had over my years of being on this forum had organised meets and drives etc.

I do remember one year at Stanford Hall where the 912 register secretary had book a club pitch next door to the DDK pitch. No one was parked on the PCGB pitch or even attended and the DDK pitch had run out of space so the executive decision was made to merge the two.

There was also a post from someone on the WhatsApp group stating that they had joined and started participating in discussions and was chastised for doing so! They also stated that the DDK was very clicky and that if you were not in the gang etc you were ignored. I certainly have never felt that in the DDK but have in the PCGB at some events,

My belief is that you get out of something what you have put into it, everything has its plus and negative points. I personally have made some good friends through the DDK.

The cliquey thing has come up numerous times over our 20 plus years… I completely get it. Joining a forum with many long term members isn’t easy and sometimes it can come across as a little foreboding but I like to think DDK is inclusive and welcoming and will always endeavour to address the balance if it appears the opposite

It’s true, you need to participate and be active to get the most out of it for sure.

I’d hate to think anybody would be chastised for starting a discussion so please reach out to that person if you can or post my comments here on the thread.

I think that the only people who've been 'chastised' (apart from those involved in Bootsy's bondage sessions) have been people attempting to use the classifieds to sell items before any form of introduction or other participation in the forum ...

A long time ago I was introduced to DDK existence by Matt Powell who has a really nice 2.2T black coupe and lives a 10 min walk from me. Matt does not frequent DDK now for many years but also has a late GT£ (997 I think).

My first impression of the DDK world was that of a closed group but Barry encouraged me to contribute.

I have certainly tried to contribute in many ways and have received a lot back in that, sometimes to the point of irritation I know.

I still feel a bit 'peripheral' to the DDK group, but I also am sure if i tried harder I could try to change that.

To the PCGB and my membership since 1988, that can be really hard to feel a part of socially, but not being a particularly sociable type that is fine.
The forum is, as ever dull in places, early cars especially so, a real feel of disinterest, but the Boxster / Cayman section is really good and positive and a life line at times.

With all these groups be it forum or face-to-face it is never always comfortable, such is life.

DDK is of course one of the brightest forums I know of, and I'm so used to it now I would certainly miss it!

I have never felt or heard anything negative about DDK on PCGB or anywhere else.

I wrote something like that in the 2022 CLM group chat - I was apprehensive as hell about joining in, but it was Sam who wrote something like 'pah, you'll be like when they introduce a new character six serieses in who manages to inject new life into the show' and while I'm not sure I've managed that I definitely don't feel like it's a clique I've joined. Probably still haven't managed to chat to all the DDK OGs yet, mind you. Maybe because they stay in their clique.

Maybe we should become more of a cult than a clique? Just joking

Can I give my perspective as a newbie who feels he is basically trying to push his way into a clique?

About two or three months ago when I started importing my 993 across America, I decided to effectively try to align myself with DDK for the 993 and also aligned myself with Porsche Club of Great Britain for my 997.

I’ve been to a couple of DDK events with Sam and it is hard when you don’t know anybody and everybody has known each other for the last 20 years… But you just have to keep trying and keep coming to Events and it might take a couple of years before you feel like you fit in.

For me personally, I am coming to the Ddk weekend when I don’t know anybody but I expect by drinking heavily, swearing like a northerner, wearing colourful pants, turning up in the worlds most beautiful car ….that by the end of the weekend I should know a few people better and one step closer to feeling like part of DDK.

With regard to PCGB I’ve been a member for the last nine years but haven’t really been involved but I just had an interview to become the east region helper elf for the 997 registry and just like DDK the more you go, the more people you get to meet and eventually it will feel like Home. I’ll let you know if they turn out to be total twats.

You’ll be fine but I warn you, some of those Northerners are a funny bunch

Clique thing is something I’m aware can happen and I REALLY try and make sure isn’t an issue for new people who come to ddk things I’m involved with
