One side out. In the end my impact tool with the head from the impact screwdriver worked. The next side has broken two drills but hopefully I will get there.

I hate the DDK System it is much to time consuming and I am not going to type it all again

With Mike's help I got close but the tool broke! I used the press to hold it in but the screwdriver bit broke.

I will order a new one and try again.

Neil,
That blade looks too narrow - try and buy a wider one and then -----

Grind and shape the blade to ensure that for get the load spread over as much of it, as is possible
The Screw may have a curved bottom - Shape the bottom of the blade to fit this curve

Makes sure that when you have everything set up - that it is square, vertical and that the load is spread over the largest possible surface are (of the Blade

Make sure that you attempting to undo it and not tighten it ?

I will now continue with my Pond work (Neil knows what I mean}

Success but not easy.

Applied penetrating oil and left for an hour.
Bent the new bit on the first try but noticed this time and stopped before breaking.
Grinded down so the blade was wider but bent again.
More oil.
Grinded down again and tried with the impact gun in the press. No luck.
Heated up then tried for the last time with the long bar. Moved a fraction and then came off.

Thanks Mike. I wouldn't got there without direction. Tried to call to thank you, in person, but I guess you were in the pond!

Pond work finished - I have Happy Ducks and Moorhens

I now have to Re-design the Bird Feeders to fend off some very persistent squirrels

One day I`ll finish off the 2 x engines plus 1 x Transmission sitting in the garage awaiting their turns

I finally got around to looking at the backup. I hoped that with a bit of cleaning solution, a checked of the bushes and compressed air I might bring it back to life. Unfortunately, not the case. I connected df and the wires from the bushes from regulator turned it clockwise using a drill but all managed to get was 0.1v. Then tried to put 12v from a battery through the generator to spin it but only sparks. I have some spare bushes that I can try and probably take it apart to give it a proper clean

Any other ideas?

Ps interesting to note some differences in the pulleys. There is a spacer in the outside pulley. The spacers are much thicker than in any 356. The inner pulley has the hub integrated

No luck. I gave the armature a good clean. I cleaned the bushes but no voltage when spinning.

I got a bit confused by the extra wire that came out. It wasn't in the diagram I was using.

I also was a bit confused by the voltage flow. The bushes seem to be earthed to the body. The extra wire appears to connect from one of the bushes to the regulator. The otherside of the coil connects to the otherside of the regulator. I was a bit surprised that the bushes are earthed to the body.

According to Bruce Smith's technical article you need a growler to test the armature which are about £350 on eBay so not a solution. I have to think about getting it fitted or a working. Plus I will need a new coil. I need to have a think as I can probably buy another alternator for less.
