I dont think you will get any more rigidity in a 964,top tip though,pad any part of the cage you or your passenger can touch while flaying your arms about,and seriously think about padding any part of the cage behind your head and seat etc.

A big second on the firestick,mine will last 2mins,fire tubes around the engine bay also a good idea with these old smelly oily classics:)

When we were recommissioning Jaffa 911 Dusty M suggested a cage from Early 911 ( ST spec) to carry on the “street racer” look.
Duly painted orange - we added a harness bar and drivers seat has a 4 point, there is an additional 4 point that can be easily added for passenger if required.
We retained lap/ diagonals ( orange ) for daily use,
She was a US DE/track car so no back seats- tip back Recaro in front with harness slots, since recovered in orange westfalia, so easy to pull things in and out , although diagonal is a PITA, soft bags are the answer!
Does it add to rigidity? I really don’t know, I’ve had her ten years now so can’t remember before/after.
Do I feel safer? Probably.
I have a chrome foam extinguisher in a Rennline mount on the passenger seat-looks cool and adds confidence.
Thinking of adding a fire stick clipped to cage.
Clearly some pix would help but am confined to bed following surgery - will try and post when I can.
Or jump on a Schipol> Cork flight in January and come have a drive!

Dunno likes, I can pop the driver's door closed without a problem normally, but it takes a bit more effort when it's jacked up - my old mk2 GTI was the same! Whether that's a problem or not, and whether the shell itself is an extension of the suspension or not is a question I'd love to know the answer to!

Just a thought, but I had a fully bolt in Heigo cage (rear only) in my old 3.2. I felt that the attachment to the sill at the outer seat belt anchor would be the weak area under a roof direction or even side load and could buckle. A cage with the welded foot plate as shown above, matching the early Porsche design, would likely be significantly stiffer and better at transmitting loads. As an aside it should be remembered that any 911 prior to a 964 has extremely limited safety features and was nowhere near state-of-the-art when G series finished, e.g no frontal crash absorbing structure, no pretensioning seatbelts, small diameter seat mount bolts and I think door side impact bars were only fitted to North America cars. It's no great surprise, as the basic body structure design was from the early 60s, but it does make me wonder how wise it is to make significantly higher power restomods on G series particularly.
