Upper Bonnet Latch (Retainer)

My original 1073 part pictured above has the sleeve which is a simple 'mazac' alloy die casting.

This material is cheap and casts well so the obvious choice, car door handles etc are cast from the same material, a very common material back then for many years.

It has a very low melting point (hence easy to cast) so will melt/dissapear in a fire. Iirc it is zinc based.
