Yep, Garry fitted mine, which had I also sourced from Andrea in Italy a while back, and said it was a pain for that reason. But Garry's pain not mine (sorry Garry!) and it looks very good indeed when installed! Anyway academic point, Andrea does indeed seem to have disappeared.

Good to know that Southbound now have the correct hex pattern stuff.

BTW "while you are in there", it's worth having a look at pics of original cars and the sound deadening strips they stuck to the inside of the roof panel. Whether you choose to exactly replicate the strips, or cover the whole thing in Dynamat (or equivalant), I would strongly recommend adding something there to stop the roof panel from vibrating like a big cymbal!

Thanks for the tip. Mine isn't a bare metal project so likely I will have the original there in front of me. The modern stuff is lighter, I presume?

Dynamat or similar is probably heavier than the original.

There is also a large sheet of foam above the fabric liner.

Original rubbery / bitumen strips will likely be peeling off and very brittle. Not likely to be doing the job of deadening the resonance in the panel; certainly not as well as modern replacements.
If weight is an issue, you don't need to cover the entire panel. About 30% coverage will dampen the cymbal effect. Try it and see.

Yes, mine have pretty much all partially detached and will be replaced with some silentcoat pads
