The car looks beautiful with beautiful *tan upholstery.
At first glance the steering wheel appears to be missing... only to make an appearance on the passengers side.
If you intend to drive without a passenger this will take a bit of getting used to.
How much are you going to pay for the car ?

Looked through all the info. It looks really nice from from the photos and the last bid compared to many in good condition looks reasonable indeed. I know what to look for, been looking at my 59A for over 50 years.
Like the fact the rev counter is still original and the engine although uprated looks really nice.
The underneath looks good to me the fact the Vee front member is different to mine made me look close but it looks good to me. Of course correct for the comment by someone to look at it who knows 356, as its a long away. If it drives as well as it looks and engine and gearbox are fine then its a nice car from the photos.

Thanks Roy. Great input.
Today I got back the PPI report on the car. It was done by a retired Porsche master mechanic with 30 years experience of working on a restoring 356. He pointed out about 10 small things with the car (like slightly worn king pin bushes, missing throttle cable tie, bumper bracket fowling, two wheels with small dents etc). Nothing major.
Drives really well. Good cold start. Rock solid underneath. He says the pan is from a B or a C. V front member replaced, along with longitudinals. All done to a decent standard. Probably done pre1972.
He found out it was a NY car, bought by seller in 1972, then parked up in a barn until restored last year.
Based on this information and input on this thread, I’m going to press the button and buy. Have it shipped to my home in Toronto. I’m paying a little over the RNM on BaT. So value wise I think I’m not making a huge mistake.
Thanks again. I’ll post up photos once I get the car in a few months.

Woohoo! I’m jealous. Looks great and thoroughly sensible money for an A, wrong pan or not.

I like the chassis number with a nod to the future in it.

I remember reading an article years ago in a magazine and a question was raised asking which car people kept the longest.
The answer was “Porsche 356”.
I’m a lightweight, only had mine for eight years, the previous owner had it for nearly thirty.
The car you intend to buy is from a long-standing owner.
How long have others owned theirs?

Thanks everyone for inputs. Car should be ready for collection by the end of the week. Then two weeks to get it from Tennessee to Toronto.
I do intend to drive it. During Toronto summer months. It’ll then head to the UK in a couple of years - returning to retire.

Gary you are a dealer just not full time. Maybe some people are a little cold, like me, because you always take and never give to the DDK. Then get offended when people wonder about your silly questions. Hopefully you will get lots of PM's saying how horrid this post is.

Mr. Turner,
I see you have a Split Screen VW for sale, a vehicle that you had restored last year.
One assumes that the sale price will leave you with a healthy profit?
