Is it underseal or stone chip? I ask because I have replaced half my floors and need to reinstate as close to original as poss. I've been planning materials on the basis that the underside is done with stonechip? On the recommendation of a bodywork guy, I've had a go on another project car with a tintable product from Novol called Cobra bedliner which would allow me to recreate the correct cream colour of the original coating.

I used Upol Raptor for the same reason that it is tintable to match the original colour. Raptor dries much much harder than the original product so I don't know how well it would blend with the original Schutz, I was doing the entire underside so it didnt matter to me. You can get a similar texture but its not quite the same, I could match the original as near as damn it on corners where you can lay in on heavy but on flat areas like the floorpan it came out a bit finer. I imagine cobra is a very similar product.

Been a bit slow lately but the inner wing looks good drivers side. Underseal not that bad to remove to be honest. Just need to get to bare metal next...

Chisel blunted at the corners and elbow grease is what I use. Slow going, and hard on the arm muscles so I do a bit at a time as a side job. Needs little if any wire brushing afterwards on the flat areas, and I use decent Bosch wire wheels in the battery drill for corner bits. The wire wheel removes the original undercoat really well, but sends the debris everywhere, so its strictly used for corner bits.

Sorry, haven't got to that stage yet.

As to freezing underseal, people have had great success freezing and cracking off the heavy black sound deadening on the inside of the floors but I wasn't aware of this working for stonechip? It's done using dry ice which may be in short supply at the moment!

I'm at the point where I am ready to patch up some small areas in the engine bay + back of rear seats. Perhaps 90% of it was OK, same for the floor, so I made the decision to keep it as original as possible and patch it rather than remove it all. The goal is to get it on the road ASAP, with excellent protection from the elements - I can always remove it all in the future.

I think its going to be tricky to get a good colour match for the cream colour original underseal, so I might just go grey.

I was thinking of using clear waxing over the underseal as an extra layer of protection (and because it can be removed easily with white spirits), but I might use non-clear instead.

Any comments on this?

Finally got some time to start again with stripping off the old paint. Good news on the first door. No rot or holes. Minor repairs needed, just a little fettling. On to the next door then the bonnet....

One question I have is the inside of the door seems to have a thin covering of under seal or glue?
What was originally put inside each door from factory?

As i understand it, there was sound insulation applied to the inside of the outer door skin? Literally a rectanglaur piece, presumably glued in place?

Been stripping the rear drivers wing. Seem to be using a lot of paint stripper.
I’ve been using Langlow Pro. Can’t seem to find that now. Anyone got any recommendations ?

Prices seem to fluctuate quite a lot.

Really pleased with the condition of the rear wing. Will start the other soon.
