Indeed, no welding is good if you can.

Never heard of the clip-on nuts (chimney) before. Another school day for me.
I had one original tab come off when bending it which led to a few more issues, some rust there does not help, hence welding it. The Dansk tabs look even more fragile.

To conclude this, I tried to use the "chimney nuts" that I got, but it wasn't a good solution as there is not enough clearance on the locating tab to fit one. Also it means grinding off the back of the tab which is punched out for the thread (if that makes sense).

So I tried tapping this pushed out part back a little bit, put a tap through it and hey presto a thread again. I don't think it's a very resilient solution, but if it fails, I'll probably have a nut welded to the back of the tab in the future.
