So having got the exterior mostly done my attention turned to the interior. Despite the car coming with factory 18way sports seats I wanted something a little more sporty. (and lighter!)

So I sourced a set of used heated carbon folding buckets from Germany as fitted to later 911s and Caymans and very nice they are too

Original style on the left, new bucket on the right.



However I'd already decided to go for a more retro look to go with the exterior colour.

So I contacted Garry at VisualFX for a set of insert covers trimmed in the original Agate Grey houndstooth material used in the 991 911R

These are very simple to fit and allowed me to keep the original leather covers should I want to revert in the future.



I also sourced some extra material for the door cards.

This turned into a mammoth job as the construction of the door card does not lend itself to being easily taken apart and reassembled as it is all plastic welded.

Not wanting to make a balls of the original door cards I bought another used pair also in the extended leather option. And stripped those down.



I also stripped and painted the trim under the door pocket



But it came out well in the end. Complete with RS door straps.



A little bit of blue detail to the centre console and gear knob also

Great work and a cracking car. Those PCCBs would have been an expensive option for the original buyer! Are they much better than the standard ones ?

Carbon Ceramic brakes

Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes. Or Ceramic Composite. Or Carbon Composite. Or similar.

The yellow calipers are the giveaway.

I think they're brilliant. When I drove a lot of 996 and 997 GT3s I decided they were the only thing I'd ever look for if I wanted to get one. Much firmer pedal feel, less fade if you're caning it down a mountain or round Cadwell and this lovely initial rock-solid bite that means you don't have to brake in two movements to shift the weight of the car forwards like you do on steelies. Andy they make very little brake dust so the wheels stay looking nice and clean.

I agree with Everything you said. However, how much are they to replace? Aston has a nightmare with them and the costs are eye watering. The Aston ones are also extremely good in the same way you mentioned and are very light. From memory it’s £8k for front disc and pads, £7k for the rear. (At a specialist)They are also not bulletproof, they can be damaged from dodgy cleaning and do warp.
I’d expect the porsche ones to be a bit cheaper but not much. Very much an individual / enthusiast choice!

The number chucked about at the time (2012ish) was £6k for all 4 I think. Still lots of money. Especially on a car with the type of value of a 987.

There were plenty even then that had changed them for steel because they couldn’t face the cost, the story was usually because of damage rather than wear.

As an option when new they were £5500 on this car.

To replace a single disc now costs around £5k from Porsche although there are other option but still not cheap at over £2k per disc.

For this reason they don't add value to a used car and this Cayman cost me no more because it had them than an equivalent car with standard brakes.

For me though it was the main selling point for me to choose this particular Cayman. I love them for all the reasons mentioned by others above, they give you great confidence in the brakes. One other reason that hasn't been mentioned is steering feel, the reduction in rotating mass does make the steering feel nicer.

My view on the replacement cost is not to worry until it happens! If i damage one disc then there are S/H ones around or as mentioned above there are third party options. But the worst that could happen is I have to fit steel discs, until then I'll enjoy the PCCBs.
