Those Locks are very difficult to crack so the guy we use works on them at home where it is quiet
Yes he has had some of our locks for over 18 months - for us there is no panic we have enough on the shelf
He is of retirement age - takes holidays and (like me) does not want to be pressurised and we have no control over the time scale, so we cannot quote one

If you are not worried about the Key number - we have locks with keys in stock
If you do want the correct key (if it is a RHD Car) - I will know what it is

Porsche advise this Kardex info is not available so contact someone who can cut a key. PRS are offering a replacement lock and key in exchange so the waiting time is not 18 months. Having spent £20.00 on a blank the exchange price quoted is much more than i think getting a key sorted so its back to the drawing board.....again

Peter, was your car originally sold by AFN ? I know Mike Smith has some records of the AFN cars which include key numbers, a copy of which will cost you £20.00 made payable to the Fraser Nash archive.

Contacted Porsche Cars GB explaining my predicament and giving them details of my car. Germany has come up trumps and dug out the key number. They may hate me for putting this on the forum as they may now be deluged with requests from other members.
Next job is to find somebody who can cut the key from the number. One of the members suggested a company in the US so will try them next unless anyone knows of a UK supplier who can do it from the number

Just posted a reply but it does not show up on my screen so you might be seeing two messages. It was only to say Porsche GB have got the key number and i am now looking for someone to cut from the number. Have emailed Zims in Texas

A big thank you to Peter for working out how to get a key number from Porsche GB. I have just done the same for my car, and Tallulah (yes, really...) at Porsche got back to me with the key number a couple of days after first contacting her. As proof of ownership, I had to email a copy of my V5C.

I have sent off a request to cut the key to keysinthepost.com who claim to be able to cut me a key for £15 inc vat and delivery etc.

It should be here in a day or two. I guess I am going to find out if my transmission lock is the original one for my car!

My persistence has paid off and i also have a key and yes it is from Keys in the Post in Sevenoaks.
Chris contacted me when i ordered to say the FE range only went up to FE2000 and Porsche had quoted me FE9***. Not to be put off he asked for the lock as he had a hunch the first 9 should have been zero. He cut a key and it fitted. Can't praise the service enough as for £15.00 including postage he could have quite easily said he could not help. As i had already paid £20.00 for a blank from a UK specialist it was cheap at the price. I will now get the blank copied so i will have 2 keys.
Porsche Cardiff tried to help but were told by Porsche UK for me to go to a locksmith. Its only when i contacted Porsche UK direct and complained that they got on to Germany for the code so do not be put off if your local dealer cannot help.
Zims in the States also responded and they again said the key numbers only went up to 2000 and asked for me to send the lock but by then i was sorted.

Just an update on my transmission lock saga...

Porsche GB sent me an Email after I provided them with proof of ownership and the details they provided contained the key number for my car, FE845. More excitingly, they did this by forwarding me a PDF copy of the Kardex! I suspect that this might have been a mistake.

However that is where the good news ends, because Keysinthepost have cut me a key to the key number, which doesn't fit my lock!

So, this leads me to believe that the lock must have been swapped at some stage. This ties in to my theory about my car being an ex racer.

I think that the next course of action is to contact PRS and swap my lock without a key for one with one.
