While you're in there, fit an inline fuse to the gauge lighting feed.

Yes, I think I did have the bulb holders mixed, but all ok now.
Finding the power lead to the gauges may be a challenge, terrible mess behind the dash as ever, but take your point.
Wouldn't though the main bullet fuse save the day?
