This 'community' loves a good car and a bit of innovation in any form.

If you're more into lazy bigotry I think it's you who might be in the wrong place, not that car.

Down with the future, progress, technology and low emissions. Long live noisy, smelly, fuel-burning combustion (for a limited minority).
Read the sub-header at the top of the page. This may not be to your taste but there may well soon be a time when a) we look at Singers and think "what a travesty to chop up a 964", and b) this kind of innovation is what keeps some old cars on the road. No, it's not for all of us, just as what Magnus does is not for all of us but it certainly is approaching things from a different perspective.

Sam, there's no need to be rude, I just don't like it, that's all.

Tosh, I agree.

Very sorry to anybody who may have been offended by me giving an opinion.

Change of course is the one certainty in this world.
Moggy's cars are winning a place in the automotive arena, the media and customers who fancy the concept.
Once electric gets better traction, the principle will become more mainstream and electric commuter cars, delivery vehicles, fun cars and, now, classic cars will all start to appear.
Diesel will be dead, petrol will be limited and electric will be the norm.

Hydrogen will have its place and when all these are deemed non green, London will be under water, Venice will be lost and I will be dead.

I doubt any DDK'r was offended or reluctant to hear your opinion, every thing is game on here IMHO.

Try to find the short video on the 911 being driven, well worth it, but if you don't like so be it! :)

Very true. Us dinosaurs stuck with a passion for internal combustion (with 5 cylinders or more!) will be the exception.

For me the character of a 911 is its engine, remove that and you just have a pretty car, in which all its other negative traits come to the surface and can no longer be excused by 'character'

Modified cars have their place, no matter what, and the world would be a poorer place without someone pushing the edges of that, be it Singer, Rauh Welt or Moggy.

However pure electric vehicles with this battery technology rely on massive structural support and complex heating and cooling systems to ensure safety. Take all that away and it worries me.

It's probably a mute point thinking 'safety' and 'old 911' in the same sentence but still...

Good, constructive comments. Like it.

By profession, I engineer what people may call 'the automotive technology of the future', so I'm certainly not 'lazy' on the matter, and my opinion is based on considerable involvement in the development of many forms of alternative propulsion technologies throughout my career, so I do somewhat resent Sam's earlier comments, although I understand how those views could be formed from my brief (and some may say somewhat provocative) responses to this thread alone (must have been a quiet day at work, and was looking for some good forum action!).

This day-to-day involvement with future car industry technology is mostly why an old 911 appeals to me on so many levels, partly as an escape from this, and may explain why attempts to pollute the 'classic' offering with this modern/future tech really gets my goat. I didn't want to get into assessing this car on an Engineering level, as I would need to see it properly, under the skin, to do that, I just wanted to make the point that I didn't like the concept. Perhaps I made that a bit to bluntly for some. I blame my mother for that, she always spoke her mind, and didn't care who was listening.

The 911's I build for my own pleasure will always have petrol-fuelled flat-6's in the back, and the future cars and engines I help engineer for the industry, well, they will have whatever propulsion the mainstream car market demands in response to legislation, technical innovation and consumer preference.

If I have anything to do with it (and luckily I do), ne'er the twain shall meet.

A lot of us on here are current or ex engineers, Gary is currently in the automotive field, and I was albeit in the late 80s which turned ne grey with the hours I put in.
My doctor told me to get out ASAP so went into caravan heating!
This change of working and engineering underlined that the public demand is very mixed, but it does all change as a whole, driven by technology as comfort, convenience and concepts change, even in the caravan industry which is more involved than certainly I first thought.

I read a great article in the Sunday times about hydrogen cars esp in California verses the growth of pure electric. Last night on TVs some professor type said Cal lead the way for the Western world and growingly the Far East.
Little was said how hydrogen was 'Made' and the inevitable energy used to process it, but on the street only water came out, filling the tank was petrol fast nearly and range was at current levels.
It overcomes a lot of electric acceptance issues block the consumer's confidence.

I would think automotive engineering today is a great energetic place to be, it wasn't when I was in it!

Mike, I'm just not sure what your loathing of the car has got to do with what 'this community' feels, nor what you think qualifies you to generalise so. I can't speak for others, but I have observed a generally positive response to Moggy's activities (with regard to building electric cars) on here, so conclude the opposite to you.

Is not the ethos of the community here not six cylinder petrol 911 s, and air cooled ?

Eh ? Too many 'nots' in that sentence confusing me :)

Imho, Ethos of Ddk is to have passion for , and fun with old Porsche's ... Wether stock, modified , 1 cylinder , 4 cylinder , 6 cylinder or what ever

Electric is not my cup of tea, but essentially just another engine swap in a world of modified cars

Don't forget, one of , if not the 1st ever Porsche designed car was electric

When it comes to the motor that drives the car, I prefer an air-cooled petrol engine. That's why I drive a '68 911. I enjoy the noise it makes, the smell from the exhaust, the vibrations that change as speed increases, the gear shifts it demands. So much of their driving character is dictated by the engine, that's why it matters so much.

I've always felt this was something Porsche marketing conveniently re found in recent years.

I have to admit that I admire Moogys work and application of the idea, but I personally need noise and vibration from any Porsche.

And on a quick cull , I could dispense with 8 of those electric motors and live happily with my old 911, my 991 RS however is another kettle
( electric ) of fish !
