A lot of modern cars in the UK now have LED's as standard. I assume they're the same in Europe. Does the comment only apply to replacements?

Easy to tell the difference - LED's are instant when lighting up whereas the old lamps (incandescent?) take a short period to achieve full power.

Just be warned that led REPLACEMENT bulbs are not street legal in Europe and never will be.

Type-approved factory fit is not the same as retro fit in light fittings designed for incandescent bulbs.....

Which rule book? There's nothing in the MOT manual to imply LED bulbs should fail and construction and use only mentions e-marked filaments on post 1986 vehicles. Happy to be corrected on that, but that's what I can find from my reading on the topic.

Did you just pop in the bulb or did you have to fit a resistor or change the flasher relay to make these work?

To Answer my own question and for the benefit of other thinking about making this mod, I thought I would post back my findings.

Crappy eBay LED lights do not work, don't waste your money, or if you really want to I have 10 cheap Chines LED lights for sale.

The ones linked to in this thread are great, pop them in and away you go no modifications necessary. My red rear lights now flash bright amber and I'm not being tooted as much when turning left and right. Thanks for the recommendation.

I think there is an advert now on TV for led bulbs as replacements on a classic Mini, so I guess LED's are ok for the UK.
