Episode 6 - The stripper

The car arrived back from Envirostrip today - great service, they collect the shell, treat and deliver back. There was a hiccup in delivery which was delayed a few weeks but what came back is so clean, you could eat your dinner off it.....

So, for those of you that have been through this yourselves, there is always some trepidation in regards of what actually is returned. Will there be anything left or not......

So, for the good, the bad and the downright ugly..........

The good bits

Overall, I got more back than i was expecting. This is obviously prior to Barry picking the car apart literally.

The tunnel, passenger floor and inner sill look good



The right hand wing



The roof which i didnt photograph, and the front bulkhead which i did



The wheelwells of both inner wings

The inner rear 3/4s and rear bulkhead

The bad

Both battery boxes





Both ends of the parcel shelf

And the ugly.....

At some point there has been some substantial surgery around the fuel tank support as its a patchwork of ...well....patches.....





The rear seat pans have all but disappeared


The rear C pillar has disintegrated



The inner right hand side inner wing is bent and torn around the oil console



The rear slam panel has been well and truly slammed



Am sure when the rear wings come off (having been stripped, they actually look quite tidy!), the usual holes in the bottom of the A and B posts will become apparent but at the moment, the stripped outer panels look rather complete. There are some small holes at the end of the dash. But overall, better than i expected.

So now, its sit down to wait for my turn in the Carter Q and get on with the other sub assembly refurbishments....

That looks like a very good result to me

I think that's looking pretty good as well. Some big bits to rip out and put back, but overall, I'd say that looks like a good base to work from.

Good to see you got your car back safely Andrew.
I can remember that day well back in June 2015, when I rushed back to take delivery of my Envirostrip'd shell and to check for any horrors.

I'm sure Barry has seen much worse - so from this point on the condition will all start to improve.

Episode 7 - The Barry Carter 911 fitness workout

In addition to posting new information, am also replacing the old photobucket links with new links which s proving to be a bit of a tedious task.

So on with the updating.

The shell has been delivered to Mr Carter.

First week of work is straightening the shell. Front front to back from the side, the shell drops down at the back by quite a lot and from above, curves round to the right - remember the evidence of collision damage at both front and back - so at this point, am thinking of painting it yellow and calling it the flying banana.

Here is a sample of the various instruments of torture utilised by Barry to straighten the shell.

yes it was that bent before as evidenced by significant buckling of the inner wings, front nearside and rear offside which Barry noted on his first inspection. Barry mentioned at the time that he had never seen a buckled engine mount before! And the screen jig didn't fit because the rear impact had pulled the rear end down which in turn had pulled the roof backwards. Surprisingly, the screen was fitted to the car when it arrived.....

As far as i am aware, the shell was popped on the jig and out of 12 reference points, Barry was initially able to bolt up 2.5 of them. Then, he started pushing and pulling to get it straight which took a week.

Ran out of time last night but will post more photos over the weekend to show progress which is quite amazing, but then Barry seems to be a magician of no small ability! It's why i waited for 18 months for his list to shuffle up to my turn.

Cant tell you how exciting this is.

Great to see these early stages in pictures so thanks for these posts.
It sounds a lot of re-shaping to be done but I guess some other areas 'come-back' when pulling or pushing another area.
The jig needs to be tough too!
