Hi there. Thanks very much. Will certainly post images as I progress. I'm off on holiday on tuesday so not had much time to get back into this. I'll finish it when I get back.

I probably could have done this by hand but wouldn't have been so clean. Also haven't seen my french curves for decades : ) It's done in photoshop.

I get easily sidetracked, so here's progress with some 'aged' texture.

Well, it's been a while. Not had the time to devote to this that I intended.
However, have made some progress:

Some of this is a bit off & still have to finish / add / tidy everything. Hopefully I'll finish it in the next week (hopefully)
Should print nicely up to A1 : )

Here's a closer view. It's not perfect but then neither were the originals : ) Also, I want a 'pen drawn' feel to them. As mentioned, it all needs refining & it all takes time. I hope this is of interest.

maybe this translation by Google will get you started; like it when the keyboard comes up to use for typing in the special characters:

That's really great, Dave. Thanks very much.

By 'translation' what I actually meant was that, because I have no idea about German, and the quality of that image is quite poor, combined with the special characters, it's difficult for me to extract the german words and translate them.
What I actually want to see is if they are relevant to the 356A or just specific to the speedster and use or change as necessary.

I then want to fill that box in with the relevant German.
So, what you've done with those 3 phrases is exactly what I needed.
I don't suppose you fancy taking a look at the rest? I'll send you a finished print as a thank you : )

Also, does anyone know what the '644.003.301.00' represents & what it would be for the 356A?

The drawings are coming along nicely.

The number in the box, 'Z Nr 644.003.301.00' is the drawing number, Zeichnung nummer.

I've no idea how the number format worked but the way it's punctuated makes it look similar to any Porsche car part number you'd find in PET.

The story goes that the 356 takes it name from a drawing number.

Thanks very much for that.
I have a really lo-res version of some 356a drawings but can't see what the number is.

I searched for the one on the speedster drawing & agree that it's like a part number. I might have to just make one up. : )

I actually read a long time ago that the 356 was the 356th design. However, I also read that it actually wasn't the 356th but whatever iteration it was didn't have the desired 'ring' to it so Ferry Porsche went with '356'. I've searched for this info since but can't find it. Maybe I dreamed it?? : )

I'll keep you posted with progress. Cheers

Some nice drawing work there. Well done. I was confused by your questions so looked back to page 1.

1). Porsche arrived at 356 because as a design company all those years ago the design number 356 was eventually arrived at and that was the Porsche design number 356. It carried the 356 name then to the end of its design life, with the 356 with designations A,B,C, Carrera for example. I guess design 910 was only changed to 911 because of the French. BUT... who knows the full story this makes the most logical one :?:

2). 13 degrees plus or minus 10 degrees is the nominal value and its tolerance. Every car has differences somewhere on the body, doors, bonnet lids, etc. Its no wonder most repro parts have to be modified somewhat on restoration. The term hand made takes tolarances into account !!

3). Correct, it is the drawing number you see ( Zeichnung )

4). The terms Schlussleuchte and 'Blink' - 'Bremsleuchte' are confusing somewhat. You do not show where the direction line on the drawing goes to.
For example Blink - Bremsleuchte translate as 'Flashing Indicator' - 'Dynamo ( Generator ) light'.

and Schlussleuchte means 'tail light' in English.

Holy Moly!! It's almost the end of Feb and I last posted in Dec. Sorry for the delay.
Still not finished. Life keeps getting in the way!!

Thanks for the reply, Roy and for your comments.
No. 4 does relate to the rear lights, so that all make sense.

I'll be back when I can for an update.

Well I've just about finished. I just need to tidy a few things up and fill in the text box at the bottom, although I have no idea what the words are. I think I'll start a new thread to see if anyone is able to supply the words & translation.

Here's the finished image (with the texture)

Looks great, surprised you've done in Photoshop though as this type of image would have been better produced in a vector based package rather than bitmap (such as Illustrator or Coreldraw). It would be then infinitely scalable without any image quality loss, even at actual size.

Yes. I'm not very au fait with Illustrator but this was all done with paths in PS which are scalable vectors. The output is raster but can be rendered to any size. This would print nicely on a billboard if need be : )
I only want it to be A1 at most.
I printed one out at A2 & I'm pretty pleased with it. Just need to get that text filled in : (

Nice one. I can't get on with Illustrator either for certain things but Coreldraw is much underrated for this kind of work.
