Just for info the Porsche caps I give the number for earlier in the thread do fit on the gearbox end cv joints as fitted by Dave Mac no problem at all. They just push on by hand and keep all the nasty grease inside..... So you can handle the shafts without fear of getting dirty, oh and they bolt up to the gearbox flange also no issues, checked that as well. So both my drive shafts are now sealed units, bliss......regards

Thanks for that, I'll add some to my Porsche order for other stuff that's going in soon.

To hopefully conclude this thread I rebuilt the shafts tonight using the 997 part numbered cap that Mark suggested.

They don't quite fit into the early 915 output flanges, and the stub axles are exactly the same, as the dome fouls on the inside:

So a light modification to the dome height:

And they fit (torqued up just to check!):
