So is this correct? U.S. 2.7 Carreras are fitted not with the RS engine as per Europe, but with the CIS engine found in the European standard cars? Wow! That could be a minefield for anyone looking to source a G Series 2.7 Carrera!!!!!

There are very few US spec cars over here in Europe, the VINs are different and the engines look completely different.

Not sure I understand Nick. We're any 2.7 Carreras produced ex works with the CIS engine. Forget VINs or appearance of engine.

Porsche regularly produced different spec engines for the American market, due to the emission regs.
The best thing for you to do is buy the latest edition of "Porsche 911 Red Book" by Patrick Paternie, it lists the specifications for each year of production, and is generally accepted as being reasonably accurate.

Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
In 1974 the base model was simply called the 911 and was available worldwide with a 2.7 litre K-jetronic 150bhp engine. The sport model (S) was available worldwide with a 2.7 litre K-jetronic 175bhp engine.
Now, the USA had never had the 1973 RS Carrera officially imported. In all markets in 1974, except for the USA, the (RS) Carrera carried on with the 2.7 litre MFI engine of the previous year but in the USA the 'Carrera' had the same 175 bhp engine as the S. They could not have the mfi engine because, as in the previous year, it did not comply with emissions regulations imposed due to the 1973 oil crisis.
So, the USA go nuts for the mfi Carreras because they were (officially) deprived of it originally in all years. Our friend on eBay creating an 'RS replica' from a 1974 model, as described in his illuminating threads on here, has the aforementioned K-jetronic engine which means he is recreating a US type Carrera at best.
Regards
Mike

Thanks. All clear now....so a U.S. 2.7 Carrera is a Euro S in drag?
Should I discard my Frere tome now in favour of this red book?

No but you should have both, the Red Book is pocket sized and you can access the knowledge quickly and easily.....plus it's not too expensive, circa 14 quid on Amazon

Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
No not really, there's much more to the US 2.7 Carrera that makes it quite different to a Euro S. As i've been saying the only difference between the US and Euro 2.7 Carrera is the engine, same can't be said of the Euro S - not in a long shot........Rubystone wrote:Thanks. All those who don't like us carrera will call it: euro 911s with ductail and flares.
But reality is -74 euro carrera with 911s engine. So let's call thing without being partial...

No partiallity, but it is essential that we are clear here, to avoid the confusion shown above. It is a US only Carrera 2.7, 175 bhp. OK?

It was 175 bhp for 1974 models but 165 bhp and even less in California for 1975 models due additional emissions equipment.

Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
Very clear. I quite like the idea of a hot rod US 2.7 Carrera with an RS spec MFI engine. Is the base engine a reasonable basis for this or better to start with a clean slate? Could go twin plug and bigger capacity as well!
The force is strong in this one ......
