Wing tops, door skins, roof panel. Any flat-ish areas we strip by hand, even though I trust the guy doing the media blasting I have had problems in the past with distortion so don't take any chances these days.

I would second this. Sadly some so called experts dont seem to take the same precautions...

Next on with the outer sill. Normally I'm a stickler for using genuine Porsche panels as the Dansk ones don't normally fit that well, but on this occasion I tried one for size and it didn't seem too bad so I decided the time making it fit would be similar to back dating the genuine sill panel so went with the Dansk.



And then the B-post

Normally at this point I would then re-attach the portion of the rear wing, but for reasons that will become apparent I'm leaving it for now.

Is it any wonder they rust in that area given the nice dirt trap in there.

Since steel 2.8 RSR (or 2.5ST) wings are not available we need to modify standard wings, using a pressed steel arch panel.



Firstly the lower section of the wing is cut away to allow proper alignment of the new arch





The front of the arch is clamped in place and the original wing strengthener reshaped to match the profile



The edge is marked and the rest of the original arch is cut away





And the new arch clamped in place











The front is spot welded



And the rear folded over the inner fillet as original





The remainder is tacked in place and the clamps removed





Before being fully welded



And then ground back













To give a near invisible join



Trial fitted

Just goes to show that my theory (and Dan's ) of if I ever get back to 911 ownership, is it will have to be from a bare shell, as unless there is clear evidence of corrosion repair, it will most likely be rusty.

I think it was the rear arches I showed you Dave, I haven't got to those yet, they are going to be harder to fit/align.

So with both front wings done I could turn my attention to fitting the early front panel.



And then couldn't resist clamping the front bumper in place to get an idea of fitment.



The bonnet was a lucky eBay purchase last year, a rust free longhood complete with a pair of Cibie Pallas and an orange bar badge. All for £300.
