DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Got fed up of tripping over bits of it in the garage, so figured I should make it at least look somewhere close to complete. I know bits and pieces are going to have to come off again for bits of welding here and there, but I figured if it was closer to complete, bits were less likely to go missing or get damaged. So took a couple of hours yesterday doing so:



The door cards cleaned up really well:



Petrol tank sitting in place, spare Empi 8 out my road now:



Bonnet sat in place, same goes for the interior:



And both doors on:



They both shut with a satisfying 'thunk'. And then that one wouldn't open again. So, anyone know how to open a 914 passenger door from the inside without breaking anything?

Won some Hills Superspeed Jigs on eBay along with a pile of Superblak digits. So I've set aside a corner of my garage for making numberplates. Something that the 914 never came with. It's got some now:

Yes Pip, yes we do. Been in the garage quite a lot of late.

What the latest with this project?...watching with interest. Be careful of that waxoyl when you start welding... I have an air compressor and gun to hand just to blow out any unwanted little flames when I work on mine!!

Not much. It's a bit more 'together' now, and I've had a poke at some of the bits where it's been painted with what looks like cement - and found nothing other than clean, bright steel. Covered it back up with zinc primer and I'd like to blend in any repairs. Original paint's only original once...

Found a perfect panel for repairing the boot floor!
